Christmas is over

Well, we took an extended Christmas break (Dec 1-Jan 17).

We're back at it and working at creating some new products.

The other day I got the opportunity to test a pattern for Micah Makes. She has some of the most adorable crochet patterns.

I was able to test her Houndstooth pattern. I made it in Julia's size.

I've got plans to make it in a few other colour combos before I list it for pre-sale and sale. :) I think it's a super cute pattern!

New Skirt for Paisley

I made Paisley a new skirt for her "special day" at school Being so close to Christmas, I thought a Christmas skirt would be fun. She picked the fabric for the one side (and I picked some for the other to make it reversible). She loved it when she got up this morning.

I didn't use a pattern for this one... just made it really full. I still need to stitch the bottom edges together... as you can see a bit of the red peeking out the bottom. But I love it, it's so cute! Plus it's so big she'll get about three Christmases out of it... and Julia can get 3 out of it ;).

Handmade Christmas

We made the decision this year to do a handmade Christmas. The last couple years, we've tried to make quite a few gifts, but always bought more. This year I want to simplify, teach my girls to be content with what they have and enjoy all the awesomeness of handmade. We are not buying into that whole one BIG gift and a bunch of little gifts for each kid. Our girls have more than what they need. Last year I think everything other than a couple toys were handmade, by me or someone I bought it from, but I'd like to make them all myself this year.

I still have plenty of work ahead of me before Christmas, but I thought I'd share some of the gifts I'll be working on.

For my girls, I am making a dress up centre. We have so many dress up clothes around the house... they need a home. I also hope to sew up some new dress up clothes to put in it!

Vivienne Party Dress

This gorgeous dress is a pattern by Peek-A-Boo Patterns It's the newest pattern, and is called the Vivienne Party Dress. It runs in sizes 3months - 8 years.

I was given the opportunity to test this dress in Paisley's size, and I'm so glad I got the opportunity! I want to make the girls' Christmas dresses every year, and this motivated me to get it done. So here is Paisley's new Christmas dress:

The pattern is an easy one to follow, and has great results! I did it in a deep red satin that I found on clearance (70% off of $13.99/m), so score! I love when I find the fabric I need/want on sale!! I bought enough to make a matching dress for Julia. I think it will have to be the 12 month size.

Kid Craft Thursday?

Maybe a new feature? Kid craft Thursday. I enjoy crafting... but so does my 3 year old. She LOVES it! Since baby Julia was born though, we haven't been doing it as often as we'd like, since Julia's not the best napper. Today We did a craft though, for fall!

I bought a few packs of buttons at the dollar store, and some mini glue dots, sort of thing (Wish I had just bought more Glue Dots instead... the ones from the dollar store were tedious to use, and Glue Dots on a strip would have been faster and easier).

First thing I did, while I got little miss to sort out the buttons by colour, was to cut out a tree out of construction paper, and glue it on a white paper. I should have brought up the pinterest pins I'd made, as using a canvas would have been so much better, and more keepable).

Then I put the sticky dot on the back and she stuck it to the paper.

I must admit, Julia had woken up from her nap and was crying, and the glue spots were getting tedious with trying to hold her and take them off for Paisley, so I put an end to the craft before we got it as "full" as she would have liked. Here is her finished tree:

An easy peasy project, that's fun and cute! I think we might do this one again, but with brand name Glue Dots, and on a canvas, with a painted tree (my construction paper tree was kinda gruff). I love the fall colours! I think when we redo it, I'd do 4 canvases... one for each season.. that could be fun. We could use green and pink buttons for the spring, multi shades of green for summer, fall in these colours, and then winter, a bare tree... with white and blue buttons on the bottom "ground". So much you can do with this idea.

I need to get back into regular blogging, and hope to get back to Saturday Slice, as well. Life is kinda smoothing out now.... kinda...

Christmas is coming!

A friend asked me to make an art tote for her niece for Christmas. I found an awesome tutorial on From An Igloo (lots of great tutorials there).

It holds 12 crayons (24 if tight), markers or 24 pencil crayons (with 2 in each slot, they won't slide out at all). There's also a spot to put a ruler and to carry a colouring book or sketch pad.

I just put a variety of colouring utensils in to display all the options. Isn't it adorable, and so convenient! Do you have a little artist in your life? I'd be happy to do a few more of these, they were fun and such a great idea!

Been a little busy

The last few weeks have been fairly hectic around here... hosting 2 birthday parties, out of town company, prepping for baby to come and just being hot and uncomfortable, didn't lead to much blogging. I do have some major catch up to do though.. and hopefully, I can get a little break here and there to do so.

We finally, 7 days late, welcomed little Julia to our family on July 11th. She is so much like her big sister... Paisley is just completely smitten with her, and is the biggest helper and friend to her. They're so cute together:

I haven't taken too many pictures yet, but will get on that right away ;).

Once I get Julia on a somewhat decent routine, we should be able to get things running again.

Still waiting for this baby to arrive, we're 4 days late at this point.

It has freed up time to do a few projects I've been wanting to do, but putting off... just simple ones.

Last night I did letters for the girls' bedroom doors:

I still want to put another layer of seal on them before hanging them. Paisley picked both papers from a selection I pulled out for her.

This was a simple project, as I got the letters on clearance at Michael's, traced them on the paper, cut them out, and then modge podged them to the letters. Took all of 5-10 minutes, and each matches the decor of their rooms, sorta.

I also got t-shirts made for the girls last night. Wasn't sure what I wanted to do on them yet... something matchy, but wasn't sure. But since the Calgary Stampede started today, decided to go with a country theme. I decided to stencil them with fabric paint and freezer paper cut on my Cricut. Turned out cute:

All in an evening's work. Felt rather productive last night.

This morning I started on inventory, and found a plethora of products that are complete and not listed yet. I've been fighting with my photo applications, and having difficulty getting things uploaded the last couple weeks.. but hopefully I can get most listed soon. I just have to do it in a really round about slow way... so it takes much more time to complete. You don't want to even know how long photos for this post took. There's a reason they're unedited.

Here is a custom order I just finished up. It's a set of baby shower invitations. Mom and dad to be are big Calgary Stampeders fans, so the person throwing the shower requested something Stamps themed. I came up with a couple different samples, but this was the favourite:

If I had known the birthdate of the baby (still on it's way, but will be here before the shower), I would have put that on the back, for more of a keepsake, but instead used the shower date.

I think they're super cute!!

I'm with the band!

On June 3rd, we attended the CD release party of my brother's band called The Burn Ins. It was a great show, and we all had lots of fun.

The littlest Schroeder wouldn't be able to fit any of the band t-shirts (YET! They are having one made for her), so I made her a shirt before we left for the show. It was cute and simple:

I just cut some freezer paper on my cricut to make a stencil, ironed it on, and then used fabric paint to paint it.

She had a BLAST that night. You've never seen a little girl dance so much. Looking through the photos from that night you see a big variety of dance moves, but here's a few of my favorite shots of her dancing to the band:

She got the whole band to sign her t-shirt as well:

I have so many ideas for these hats, but just showing one for now.

We are starting a series of applique knit hats.

These hats are knit base (any colour you would like) with a felt applique stitched on. The possibilities are endless, and we can do custom orders, or you can pick from some of the stock appliques/colours we are working on doing up.

We will be listing some stock ones of these as soon as the postal lock out is over, but will be posting a custom choices a little later.

I have a whole host of projects I've done, but haven't had a chance to get modelled pictures of yet, so I've decided to start posting one a day on here until I can get proper photos.

With 3 weeks to go til my due date, I have switched gears to products for a newborn shoot.... so many things won't be listed until after the baby has arrived (as soon as I find the time to start taking orders).

This is one of my favourite props I've seen... a mermaid cocoon! I love the tail, and I added a starfish to the matching headband:

May Project

I still haven't finished my May project. It was going to be a maternity skirt, but at this point, I'm tempted not to do it, since I only have about a month left.

So instead I think I'll carry that project over to June, and I really want to try shirring a few dresses. So watch for updates on that. Hoping to tackle that this week, now that my quilt is done.

Shirring is something I've been intending to do for 3 years now.... I have all the supplies, just have to do it. :) I'll post some fabrics later today for "June's" project....

Other projects on the to-do list this month is mermaid tail towels (to use as favours for my daughter's birthday party), as well as a few items for the nursery.

Finished Quilt

I love this pattern, and would definitely do it again. It worked up nicely. I did attempt my first time at machine quilting. I'd say it was successful, but with many flaws. I think with a little more practice, I could do it better. I did a few doll quilts this week to practice my quilting on before I did this quilt, and the doll quilts looked much nicer. I found it hard to manoeuvre the larger quilt, and got quite a few "beaks" in my quilting. I also encountered some bobbin issues for a small part of it.

The pattern was called "Star Log Cabin". Love it!! I just HAD to do the stars in yellow, to make them pop. I was going for a light and airy feel on the colours... I'm always drawn to greens and blues, and thought it would be the perfect combo for this quilt. I like how it turned out. It's a lap size quilt (baby size).

I backed it with a blue polka dot flannel:

I've decided to keep the quilt. I toyed with giving it away, or selling it, but I think due to the flaws, I would rather keep it for my own kids. I would say that it was for the baby, but Paisley has already tried to stake a claim on it. So I think it will be a shared household quilt.

Once I put binding on the doll quilts, I'll post those.... but that may be a while... have so many things on my to do list.

Pattern Test

I love when I get the opportunity to pattern test. It forces me to make things for my own daughter, and with a time line (I have lots of projects started for her, but not many get finished).

This pattern was the Reversible Skirt by Seamingly Smitten Patterns.

Here is a few photos of Paisley in the finished product. I love that it's reversible (great for spills when out) and I love the wave detail on the bottom:

I was amazed that I even found 3 coordinating prints in my stash... I'm notorious for only buying things that don't go together.. and end up having trouble finding prints that go together when I need to.

Love the skirt! It's super cute, lots of growing room, and works up easily and quickly! The pattern is well written, and easy to follow, even if you were a newbie to sewing.

Paisley is smitten with her new skirt, she wore it all day the day after I made it. She keeps asking if its clean yet (I'm behind on laundry right now).

Such a cute pattern. I know I'll be making several more of these for my girls over the coming years!

Ivwas working in my craft room this weekend.. making it usable... so you'll see a theme this week ;)

This crafty storage crate is a great idea!! Totally making one for my current crochet projects and my crochet hooks. I have a former roommate that left a milk crate behind a long time ago. This tutorial was posted by My Patchwork :

I'll admit, I saw this tutorial last summer, and already started it. But my to-do is to finish it! This thread holder by Sugar Bee Crafts is perfect for an organized craft room. The only thing left for me to do is glue the dowels in the holes... but i haven't touched it in a year. I am determined to finish that in the next couple weeks!

Ribbon storage...the eternal problem for me. I was thinking of doing something like this, but on a larger scale. Ribbon storage tutorial by Scrapmasters Paradise:

I actually might do this ribbon storage instead.... my hubby pointed out that I never sit at my desk to do hair clips... so it'd be better to just be able to grab the spools I need, and not have them on a dowel. This ribbon storage was on Nichole Heady's blog (Papertrey Ink).

I just have some paper filing to do and I can take pictures of my craft room. Still need to get a few more storage solutions, but it's definitely a functional room now! :)

Glass Etching

Glass etching is something I've been meaning to do for a LONG time. I bought my etching cream about a year ago, with good intentions. I finally got around to doing some etching. Perfect excuse: a wedding gift.

A friend of mine recently got married (remember the ring bearer pillow, and flower girl accessory). She loves to cook. She's a good cook! Well for her gift, we bought her a big set of pyrex dishes with lids. Perfect for the one who's always cooking for others. I decided I wanted to etch her new married name on the bottom of all her dishes... so that, generous person that she is, she always gets her dishes back when she brings food to people.

The process is super simple, and I'm not sure why I put it off so long.

First step is to decide what you want it to say. Then, using your Cricut, you type it in, in reverse order, with the Flip function turned on. Cut it the size you want on vinyl.

Then take some transfer tape... and transfer the stencil to the pan you want (I tried with out transfer tape, because I thought I was out... and it was disastrous. It worked.. but it was kinda sloppy, and hard to get the letters nice).

So it looks like this:

PUt the etching cream on thickly, and let sit for a few minutes (says 60 seconds on the bottle.. but I let it go extra long).

Rinse off the etching cream (you can actually scrape most off and put back in the bottle to reuse, I'm thrifty like that).

Peel off the vinyl, and Voila!

Super simple... I'd love to do this with some designs, etc on my own dishes.

So many great ideas and designs out there on the web. Vases, glass kitchen storage canisters, cake stands/covers.... I'm definitely going to play. You can also use it on mirrors.

I still haven't given it to the bride... eek. I have them coming over this weekend though... so hush... don't tell them I posted their gift here ;)

TOTALLY need to make these Sponge Water Bombs! They will be perfect for the summer months, and water fights between toddlers. Found this tutorial on Positively Splendid's Summer Survival Guide:

Pants! We definitely need more pants around here, especially for playing outside, and ones that are easily pulled up and down for pottying (jeans have posed a problem lately). This kid pants tutorial looks fantastic! I love that she's added additional tutorials for lining, pockets, and flat front. This tutorial is from MADE:

Now how fabulous is this pillow? I absolutely adore it! I honestly don't have the style house that would suit it... but it makes me wish I did! This tutorial is by Suzanne at Just Another Hangup :

I bought a jelly roll the other day, and came across this quilt pattern while searching for ideas on how to use it. I love this quilt... so I think this will be my next quilt project. It's called Sugar Pop N Change. I found it on the Moda Bakeshop Blog. The pattern is by Melissa of Happy Quilting :

Just what I need! Right now my crochet hooks are in a canning jar. I have a hook roll up, but unless I'm travelling, I find it tedious to use. Perfect solution! These denim bins are by Betz White, and found on the Craft website.

Feeling Gnomey

I was feeling inspired the other night, and whipped up this gnome hat for my daughter. She woke up while I was making it, so I got to try it on her, and she was excited about it. She loved it. I told her I was going to put white polka dots on it, and she very strongly said she didn't want WHITE polka dots.... she wanted RED polka dots. After trying to explain that red polka dots on a red hat wouldn't work, I tucked her back in bed, and went back to add polka dots.

This morning I tried it on her, and she was NOT happy that I had put white polka dots on it. I had hoped she had forgotten. She declared she didn't like the hat (You just can't win with a 2 yr old). She did let me take some pictures of her in it..... but she was goofy and not holding still at all.

Anyway.. here are some pictures of the reluctant model in the hat. I think the hat is adorable. Not sure if it's one we'll list in our shop or not... undecided, but it is cute! I might increase the number of polka dots on it....

Quilt Progress

I've completed 3 classes in my quilt class now.... I didn't do all my homework for this morning's class, but hoping I can get by. Here it is so far.... but I'm off to my 4th class in about an hour....

I love how it's turning out. I'm nearing the completion of the top.... I'm going to guess that with today's class, and homework assigned this week, that I will have the top done for next wee (still need to do the frame, borders, and the border stars).

This toddler bench is brilliant. My daughter is constantly hauling stools, and the chairs to her little table around the house. She likes things that are just her size. This tutorial is found on The Mother Huddle.

I NEED some maternity clothes... I've gotten to the point where even my longer maternity shirts are getting too short. So the next two projects I want to do ASAP for me! But are ones that I can reuse the fabric for toddler clothes after.

This is the Kyoko dress by ModKid

I made a size 4 for Paisley, since she's in a small size 3 now... and she'll get more wear out of it then. If you take the sash off though, I think it will actually fit her til she's like 10 years old as a top... it's pretty wide through the bodice. It's gathers up nicely beneath the obi (sash)... so making a bigger size is great!

I completed it last week in time for her to wear it for Good Friday. She wore it to the wedding rehearsal that evening and out for dinner (unfortunately it was Chinese food, not Japanese).

The pattern was easy to follow, and is so adorable on! I let Paisley choose between the shirt vs dress option, and the long sleeve versus long sleeves (all are options). Normally the part below the sash would be panelled with different fabrics, but since I've had this teapot fabric for so long, I didn't have any coordinating prints to put with it, so I just did 2 panels of the same fabric, and removed the seam allowance for all the extra panels. Super cute, and she loves it :) But she wants chopsticks in her hair! She needs a little more hair first ;).

If I get time over the summer, I'm thinking I'll make a limited few of these for the shop... so if you have any colour/fabric or size requests... let me know :)

Busy weekend

This last weekend, a good friend of mine got married.

The last few days before the wedding, I finished up a couple small things for it.

I also did the invitations, and table cards for this wedding, I have the files on a different computer though.

It was a beautiful wedding! I got to help set up the wedding/reception site with flowers and candy, etc. Lots of fun and visiting (and long hours). I was even asked to be an impromptu bridesmaid the day before. It all came together beautifully though in the end... and the happy couple is off on their honeymoon in Cuba!

I have a craft room! A luxury a lot of people don't have.

But I have a problem..... I can't use it!

You see that is the one room in the house that isn't functional.

When you come in my house... this is what you see.....

Yup, you can see my craft room from the front door.... I conveniently hide it behind a screen. It's my shame....

Take down that screen... and:

Yup.. I can't even walk 6 inches into that room.

I need help... I need motivation to tackle that room... so it can be functional, and a place that I can actually do my sewing and papercrafting!

Currently I have been sewing in the dining room:

I need to get my room organized and functional, so I can take down that screen, and proudly display my craft room to company. It takes me forever to get what I need when I need something from there.

So my goal over the next month or so, is to get it functional, and maybe even a little pretty. I used to be able to take my daughter in there to stamp and craft with me.... but now it's all done in the dining room....

Wish me luck..... and be thankful your craft space doesn't look anything like that!

I don't even keep my fabric in this room... it has shelves in the basement.... and that is just another area that needs to be tackled!

Every week I bookmark a tonne of crafty tutorials, or finished projects by others....I couldn't possibly create them all. I would love to highlight some on this blog, and hope to motivate myself to do some of them up. Most are for our own personal use around the house, as I wouldn't feel right selling them (unless permission is explicitly given). Some will be inspiration photos, others will be links to tutorials, and some other will be actual patterns that I just couldn't resist and most likely have bought.

So hopefully this is a weekly edition, but it may be twice a month or so.

I'm so excited to be expecting another girl... I love skirts and dresses, and everything girly! :) So many great projects out there for girls!

My FIRST Quilt!

I've done many rag quilts in my day..... always being afraid of doing a real quilt (rag quilts are so forgiving, and you don't have to be as precise). Well I found some fabric I liked when I was shopping with my mom at Hamel's (if you're in the Fraser Valley, you have to go visit and spend hours in their upstairs... great deals and so many goodies), and decided I wanted to make a quilt for the living room floor for my upcoming baby. If it spits up nearly as much as my daughter did... I'd like to protect the carpet a little!

I just did a simple pattern.... the fabric in the centre was already cut to those lengths.... I think they were pre-cut for a quilt, or samples, or something from the shop. So I just selected the order, and then reversed the middle strip to the outer two strips. It was easy-peasy. I got the quilt top done in a little over the hour (I had help from a toddler on that one). I ended up just hand tying the quilt, as I'm still a little intimidated to do the machine quilting. I'm hoping this upcoming quilt class will show me how to do that, and get me over my fear! I completed the tying and the binding yesterday. I figure this quilt would have only taken maybe 3 hours if it was uninterrupted, but of course, it took me about 2 afternoons.

I'm proud of it as a first quilt, even though it's simple:

I signed up for my first quilt class. It'll run the next 7 weeks on Saturdays (with homework in between). I can't wait! I chose my fabric for it yesterday, and decided it'll be a "baby" quilt, but for a friend's baby.

April's Project of the Month

Here's a sneak peak at the supplies for my April project of the month. I've had this tea pot fabric forever... like a year. Been waiting to find the perfect project for it. I've decided to use a pattern that I've had a long time as well. It's a pattern that I HAD to have when it was released by ModKidBoutique, yet I still haven't even thought about tackling it. :)

This is a project for Paisley. :)

We made the cutest set this week! Actually, several of them.

A cute spring/summer sun hat made with 100% cotton yarn and a matching girl's purse.

We are currently taking custom orders for these sets ($32) or for the hat ($20) or purse ($16) by themselves. So cute with Easter dresses!

Here is a couple other purses that are complete and ready to go. These ones are made of acrylic yarn, and are super cute. The purses measure approximately 7 inches wide and 5 inches tall, perfect size for what items a little girl would like to bring with her to the mall, church, or any other outing.

We are working on some knit booties that will match this sun hat as well, for those with little girls that are too little for a purse. They're super cute, and can't wait to share a picture of the booties with you!

Gearing up

I miss doing my project of the month's... so I'm restarting those.... but I think I want to do a Sewing Project of the month AND a crochet project of the month.

So starting next week, on the 1st, I'll post my supplies for the crochet project of the month, and on the 15th, I'll post the supplies for the sewing project of the month. :)

I used to do these on my former blog, before I split into my crafty and personal blogs. I have lots of projects on the go, so this helps me set deadlines for at least two projects a month (sewing project to be done by the 14th of the next month, and the crochet project by the end of the month).

I would like to try new patterns for both each month as well... but time permitting (since new baby on the way in July), I may resort to patterns I've used before, but with new selection of supplies.

Generally these projects will be for personal/family use... and not for sale... but if anyone really likes something I came up with, just let me know, and usually I could make one up for you as well.

Thanks for checking in! I know this blog has been such a boring place lately.... I keep intending to fix that, but haven't been as motivated lately.

Here is a new flower hat design we'll be listing in the shop soon. I made one for my daughter this weekend, and she's smitten with it.

I'm going to play with different colours, etc. It is somewhat similar to our clip hat, but is made of cotton yarn, a more closed in top of the hat, and a new rose style of flower.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the branding of Barefoot Creations. I started out just using a footprint... it works well for business cards, but I've never been able to incorporate it into a banner very successfully....

There's a few shops that have gotten me thinking lately... to choose one "icon" that is recognizable, and that will stay in all my banners, avatars, business cards, etc over time.... Some of these shops that I think are branded really well are:

Little Jumping Beans (adorable baby shoes, bibs and other baby goodies)

Heather's Handmade Creations (fabulous handmade cards and now featuring some crochet items)

I think they both do a fabulous job of branding. Everyone recognizes Jaimie's jumping bean... just as everyone recognizes Heather's polar bear. I've been thinking A LOT about this over the last week. I want an icon that is going to be Barefoot Creations icon. Finding the right image has been a struggle. I wants something Canadian... something that is fun, and whimsical, and something that will make my customers smile. I also want something that although the icon stays the same, I can customize the banner, avatar, etc based on season or what not. I love change... LOVE change. So it's hard to commit myself to one thing, so to have an icon, but being able to change the rest, it what I need.

Do you have any suggestions? I've chosen a couple things that I might consider... but would love to hear some feedback from my fans.

I was contacted and asked if I could do a Chicken Christmas Card for a customer. I love how they turned out!! :)

The back story is that the customer and her husband raise chickens, and wanted a card to give to their egg customers this coming holiday season.

Preparations and New Products

We've been so busy lately with stocking up for upcoming fall/Christmas shows and with acting on new designs we've had in our heads. Seems we barely sleep a lot of the time!

We've got lots of new products that will listed soon. Many adult products.. and also new products for the kiddos. I'm so excited about them!

In October we have a session planned with a local photographer. She has given us a few sets of photos already... here is just a few of them.

I've been so busy creating, I haven't been blogging.

Since I've been doing a lot more papercrafting lately, I thought I would start participating in some sketch challenges etc.

This challenge was given by Jitterbuggin' Challenge

It seems we always have trouble with byhand.me on Friday/Saturdays... so I have finally made the decision to change the day of it... maybe on Mondays.

In the meantime... we've been busy listing new products like crazy, so I will be updating here with many new things as they come.

One item that is NEW is our snack bag sets! I'm really excited about these. We have been selling them since December/January, but they have been selling before we even manage to list them! We finally have gotten all our friends and family covered, and os are now getting them listed in our shop!

These bags are fantastic for adults and kids school and work lunches, or for travelling. They come as a set or idividually.

A set contains 3 in the following sizes:

Small 4" x 7" (10cm x 18cm)
Medium 6.5" x 7" (16.5cm x 18cm)
Large 8" x 7" (20.5cm x 18cm)

Sizing is approximate, and may vary slightly with each set.

The exterior of these bags is a fun cotton print, while the inside is a wipeable nylon. The nylon allows for you to transport items that might have a bit of moisture. I have used them for grapes, and orange slices without leakage. Although not waterproof, they do contain moist moisture.

To care for your bags.. you can just invert them and wipe clean... or toss them in the washing machine alone or with a load of clothing. If needed, they can be ironed on low-medium heat.

The velcro closure goes the entire width of the opening to keep all goodies contained.

Great for road trips with kids, in the diaper bag, in the lunch box.

Also can be used to hold crayons, small toys, etc when on the go.

Many of you know I started Barefoot Creations as a card and invitation company, but had moved on to other crafts, etc. I miss cards, so I've been making cards again. Terrific Tutorials

This is a new feature, that I hoped would become weekly, but due to time, it will be more sporadic.

There are hundreds of thousands of tutorials online.... and some of them are pretty cool!

Today's feature tutorial is "Homemade Gummi Candies", which I found on Skip To My Lou's Blog. (Lots of tutorials and neat stuff there!)

Paisley helped me with this one.

What you need:

1 box Jello
2 envelopes of unflavored Gelatin
Molds (either plastic ones for chocolates, or silicone ice cube trays work well)

Pour 1/3 cup of water into a saucepan, and add the jello and gelatin, let stand a few minutes. Then heat til it dissolves (2-5 minutes).

Transfer to a container that's easy to pour from (I used a measuring cup).

Fill the molds, and let them stand for about 2 minutes. To speed up the setting of the gummies, you can put it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Then you can just pull them out of the molds! Don't be scared to really pull, they'll stick together.

I found that mine were not really set after 30 minutes on the counter, so put them in the fridge, and 10 minutes later, they were full fledged gummi candies. So yummy!

I had a sesame street ice cube tray that i've never gotten to use (I have an ice maker in my fridge, so never had a use). So Paisley loved it! :) I got carried away and made a 2nd batch in green (too bad I didn't do that til the oscar the grouch ones were already filled!).

If you like your candy more chewy, you can add another packet of gelatin. I actually was a bit stingy on the gelatin for the red batch... only used one envelope, they still set, but are softer. So whatever you would like for the consistency.

A great place to get fun shaped ice cube trays (the flowers, and star fish ones I have... also have hearts, etc) is IKEA!. :)

Have fun! It's a great activity to do with the kids, and they're tasty!

Lots of thinking time!

I've had more thinking time that normal lately. My wrists have been in pain due to too much time on the computer, so I can't spend too much time on here, or too much time doing a lot of my crafts (can still get away with some).

I really would like to put this blog to better use! I'm re-instating Saturday Slice, but my partner Heather will heading that up (I love the Etsy items she's sending me all the time!). That feature may be renamed... based on the day it is to be published on, but it will be back.... VERY SOON!

I also really want to start doing my Featured Artist Posts again. There's just SOOO much talent out there! And each artist is amazing in themselves! :) I want to share some of of the people I've been getting to know over the last year that I have been selling online.

Lately I've also been thinking of a brand new feature. :) I'm really excited about this venture... and perhaps may have some guest bloggers get in on it, we'll have to see. But, I'd like to also have a weekly feature that would feature a crafty tutorial on the web, and then photos of our creations based on that tutorial, and maybe and thoughts we had on it (because I know I always change a few things when following patterns or tutorials... I can't just follow things to a T).

I would love to hear any feedback on any of this!

I'm off to try to sleep, and hopefully tomorrow my arms/wrists will be rested, and ready for me to work.

(I apologize for the lack of posting.... I wrote this post January 2nd, and never posted it!!! Talk about brain freeze!)

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday! We sure did.

Now it's back to work, and lots of exciting reveals.

First off, we just launched a 2nd online shop!! Barefoot Clips, which remains under Barefoot Creations, now carries all our hair accessories and leg warmers. We were finding there was just TOO much for one shop, and decided to get a little more organized.

We, of course, will combine shipping costs between the two shops.

We also have some brand new products coming in the next couple of weeks, plus more variety within our existing products.

I've finally got some time to work on some personal project, and try things I've been wanting to.

Last night I whipped up a couple of gifts for kids in my daughter's playgroup. Here are last night's projects:

I enjoyed working on both of these projects. I have many more I want to work on over the holidays.

Barefoot Creations is on vacation right now. We just started selling mini chef sets.

These sets include an adorable reversible apron, and a matching chef's hat. These are very adjustable in age they will fit, as the hat has velcro for adjusting and they will fit as young as two years old.

Saturday November 14th, we will be closing down our online shop in order to participate in the Nicholas Sheran Christmas Gift & Craft Show. This is an annual Christmas craft show in Lethbridge, Alberta. It runs from 10 am-3:30 pm. If you live near by, be sure to come by and say hi! Admission to the show is only $1, and there will be many fabulous vendors.

New Dress

I had the idea to make a candy corn dress.... Here is the prototype. There's a couple flaws that I need to fix, but overall, I like it.

It's reversible, and this particular one is a 18-24 months size.

I also think I'll make the orange strip just a smidgen narrower.

A Custom Order and an Update

I finished up a custom order this week. It was for 2 reversible pinafores. All my custom orders I usually package up, and forget to take pictures, but I remembered this time.

In other news, over the weekend I picked up a couple of body forms (the one in the pictures above is a 6 month size), and I also picked up a 2T size. I also picked up a styrofoam head for photographing hats.

So you'll see me slowly replacing the photos in my shop with new ones.

New to the shop!

I've started carrying extra large flannel receiving blankets. You can't find these in stores, and store-bought ones are not big enough to swaddle more than a newborn.

These blankets come in a variety of prints (more are constantly being listed), are lightweight and useful for a variety of purposes.

Some of the uses for these blankets are:

-swaddling (big enough to swaddle even a toddler)

-nursing cover (allows you to nurse in public very discreetly)

-changing pad (rolls up small, and can slip into any bag for quick diaper changes)

-sun shield (can use over a car seat, or stroller to keep the sun of your infants sensitive skin)

-tummy time nap

-cleaning up and protecting clothes from spit up

-and any creative use your toddler can come up with (cape, headdress, etc)

We're Back!!

Hard to believe it was so long! Between listing and selling our home, and purchasing and moving to a new one, as well as a family vacation, the last few months have been a whirlwind.

But guess what? I have a new studio space in the new house, and am eager to be creative. Lots of space for that now!

Barefoot Creations online shop is back up, with plenty of new products. I've partnered up with my good friend Heather, who knits children's hats. They are absolutely precious! Here's a few of the hats she has listed with Barefoot Creations:
